Be Present

And remember that no one lives more than this infinitesimal point of time, the present; the rest of his days are either lived out or hidden from him.

– Marcus Aurelius

Do you spend your present in your past? In your future? Enjoy and smile at glimpses of your past and future but be sure to stare at the present most frequently. Be when and where you actually are.

Awareness

Man is nothing other than his own project. He exists only to the extent that he realizes himself, therefore he is nothing more than the sum of his actions, nothing more than his life.

-Jean-Paul Sartre

What is the final sum of your actions this week? Who did you become? Awareness of actions, especially habits, is key.

Gratitude

The fool’s life is empty of gratitude and full of fears; its course lies wholly toward the future.

-Seneca

How often are you consciously grateful? Gratitude is much less fragile than desire, and the present is more stable than the future. Act now, inspired by gratitude.

Community

The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.

Epictetus

Whose presence calls forth your best? We will grow with whomever we sustain a relationship. The only consideration is if that growth leads to goodness and leads to flourishing or if the growth is destructive. Either way, you’re getting older and changing as a result of their influence as they are changing as a result of yours.
